Mini gastric bypass surgery is a less extensive form of gastric bypass surgery and a newer approach as the surgeons would say. Patients avail of such procedure to buy them a quicker procedure and a rapid time of recovery. The procedure however is very much similar to the Roux-en-Y procedure only, it is less extensive. This procedure does not include any anastomsis. Theoretically, the risks of such operation would be lower compared to that of any RNY Gastric Bypass. The efficiency of this procedure is still being carefully studied and evaluated at the current time.

Although this procedure, mini gastric bypass surgery, is gaining popularity in the field of medicine, the jury is still out in the United Kingdom and the United States with regards to its use. Also, despite the vigorous and extensive study done for this procedure, it has not yet been proven fully effective.
